The microRNA response associated with methyl jasmonate-induced resistance in Norway spruce bark

چکیده
Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) treatment elicits induced resistance (IR) against pests and diseases in Norway spruce (Picea abies). We recently demonstrated using mRNA-seq that this MeJA-IR is associated with both a prolonged upregulation of inducible defenses defense priming. Gene expression can be regulated at transcriptional post-transcriptional level by small RNAs, including microRNAs (miRNAs). Here we explore the effects MeJA subsequent challenge wounding on miRNA transcriptome. found clusters down- or upregulated miRNAs as well whose was primed after challenge. Differentially expressed included miR160, miR167, miR172, miR319, miR482/2118 superfamily. The most prominent mRNA targets predicted to differentially activity belonged nucleotide-binding site leucine-rich repeat (NBS-LRR) family. Among other were genes regulating jasmonic acid biosynthesis. Our results indicate have an important role regulation spruce.

Induction of volatile terpene biosynthesis and diurnal emission by methyl jasmonate in foliage of Norway spruce.
Terpenoids are characteristic constitutive and inducible defense chemicals of conifers. The biochemical regulation of terpene formation, accumulation, and release from conifer needles was studied in Norway spruce [Picea abies L. (Karst)] saplings using methyl jasmonate (MeJA) to induce defensive responses without inflicting physical damage to terpene storage structures. MeJA treatment caused a ...
متن کاملFlavan-3-ols in Norway Spruce: Biosynthesis, Accumulation, and Function in Response to Attack by the Bark Beetle-Associated Fungus
Proanthocyanidins (PAs) are common polyphenolic polymers of plants found in foliage, fruit, bark, roots, rhizomes, and seed coats that consist of flavan-3-ol units such as 2,3-trans-(+)-catechin and 2,3-cis-(–)-epicatechin. Although the biosynthesis of flavan-3-ols has been studied in angiosperms, little is known about their biosynthesis and ecological roles in gymnosperms. In this study, the g...
متن کاملResponse of peppermint to methyl jasmonate application .
Jasmonate compounds are known as new plant hormones that play important roles in the regulation of plant growth and development. Mints have been used and valued as aromatic herbs for thousands of years. Peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) is used for medicinal and food purposes and its essential oil is considered industrially important. Peppermint plants were grown in a greenhouse in pots. At flowe...
متن کاملInduced Terpene Accumulation in Norway Spruce Inhibits Bark Beetle Colonization in a Dose-Dependent Manner
BACKGROUND Tree-killing bark beetles (Coleoptera, Scolytinae) are among the most economically and ecologically important forest pests in the northern hemisphere. Induction of terpenoid-based oleoresin has long been considered important in conifer defense against bark beetles, but it has been difficult to demonstrate a direct correlation between terpene levels and resistance to bark beetle colon...
متن کاملA common fungal associate of the spruce bark beetle metabolizes the stilbene defenses of Norway spruce.
Norway spruce (Picea abies) forests suffer periodic fatal attacks by the bark beetle Ips typographus and its fungal associate, Ceratocystis polonica. Norway spruce protects itself against fungal and bark beetle invasion by the production of terpenoid resins, but it is unclear whether resins or other defenses are effective against the fungus. We investigated stilbenes, a group of phenolic compou...
